COVID-19 Vaccination
Full vaccination with the COVID vaccines is safe and effective. Thank you for making the right choice in getting vaccinated to help yourself, family and community. If you have some concerns about the vaccines, vaccination schedules or potential ill effects, please speak to your doctor. A few loud misinformation voices, some even medical, have needlessly and dangerously created havoc in our communities. Further official information, vetted by experts you literally depend on to save your life, is available via Alberta Health Services (link below). Talk to us about your concerns.
As of July 20, 2022, COVID vaccination with the 4th dose (2nd booster) is available to all Albertans aged 18+. The update to the recommendation occurred with new data suggesting that this original vaccine, that seemed to be less effective against the Omicron strain, was relatively effective against the current highly infectious BA.5 strain. Illness and hospitalization numbers have been increasing again as we relax some restrictions including hospital visitors. Prudently getting further vaccinated, even if you had a COVID infection (immunity dose unknown), will protect you and others for the upcoming Fall virus season. The new Omicron specific vaccines being evaluated for release in the late Fall have not been tested against BA.5. More protection means less illness and faster recovery with less likely long COVID syndrome, even if an infection occurs.
